The art of sewing (tailoring): - patchwork art (“urakkurau”); - tailoring (kiim tigu)

The art of sewing of the Kazakh people, into which they put their heart, is distinguished by the variety of methods of sewing art. According to researcher-ethnographer Zhagda Babalykuly, from the rich heritage of this craft of our people, more than 100 types of sewing and tailoring have been preserved. However, the passage of time changed, many sewing machines came into use, and many types of sewing fell into disuse when manual labor was replaced by technology. Let's look at the varieties of traditional sewing methods: “Zhorgep tigu” is a preliminary pattern that allows you to make a pattern before sewing any item of clothing. Kazakh tailors called “zhorgep tigu” the first seam, which was sewn from all parts of the pattern to secure the finished fabric, and then removed after sewing the clothes. “Koktep tigu” – sewing is usually used to make blankets rather than clothes, or to make designs from various expensive fabrics. The thread for such sewing of clothes is two, three times thicker than the thread for sewing clothes. For “koktep tigu”, a large and thick needle “teben” or “zhualdyz” is usually used.
