One of the oldest heritage of the Kazakh people among the national games. This game differs from other Kazakh national games in that it is very complex, reveals the attention of the player, increases the flexibility of accounting, and strengthens the ability to quickly find. It is based on the number nine, which was considered sacred by the ancient Turks. In the time of togyzkumalak, shepherds played a lot. The game was sometimes called “Shepherd's algebra”. The game of togyzkumalak, supported by UNESCO and proposed by Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkey, was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2020 (Paris, France, 17 December 2020).
