The race has an ethnographic content and a rich tradition that we do not know. We decided to briefly touch on that. In the past, the competition was organized at large and small feasts and in order to avoid controversial issues, the authority of the competition was entrusted to the authoritative elders. The man in charge of the dinner was called “Kireshi”. He was responsible for the fair conduct of all horse games (baige, audaryspak, kokpar, etc.).

In the past, before the start of the horse race, people with red scarves tied on their heads and holding clubs in their hands announced and gathered the runners in one place. It is called “Horse makers”. The person who is appointed to safely transport racehorses who join the race to the place where the race is held,is called “Horsedrivers”.

The place where the racehorses were kept was called “Kombe”. For the kombe, a suitable place with a height and a clear view of the surrounding area was selected.

Before starting race the racehorses will pass in front of a large crowd. Famous racehorses walk alone, apart from other horses. Asaba, appointed by kireshi, introduces the famous runhorses with praise. According to the Kazakh tradition, the racehorse walking in front of the crowd is covered with kezhim by his owner (fully covering his body) in order to preserve from evil eyes.
