The art of performing termе
Terme is a type of poem genre that later developed in Kazakh oral literature. The basis of terme poems is directly related to oratory and skill within the people. Wise words of orators of different epochs became a model of eloquence. In terme the form of hinting and emphasising has been preserved. In his time Sh. Ualikhanov explained in the sense of "zhyr, zhyrlau". Sh. Ualikhanov defined the meaning of the word "zhyrom" as a sample of epic poetry (rhapsody) spreading in the oral speech of the people, and explained that zhyrlau (singing) is a colloquial speech with melody (to speak in speech). And Akhmet Baitursynov says: "the essence of what is called terme is that this genre does not only talk about one thing, but collects all the different things and turns them into recitative. When there is a lot of talking about one thing, terme performers are not fixated on something. Terme performers, in order to say something else, do not fixate on one thing while singing.
In Kazakh the terme based on the verse sounds like this:
Argymakzhaby korіner,
Asa shauyp bulansa.
Aidyn kol batpaқ korіner,
Aidyny қuryp, sualsa.
Baiterek sabau korіner,
Zhapyragy tusіp, kuarsa.
Bіraz ғana soileiіn,
Zhaksylar, sіzge unasa.
Argymaқ zhailap ne kerek,
Artynan zhaby zhetken soң.
Agaiyn, tuys ne kerek,
Andysyp kunі otken son?
Қyzyl tіlіm sairap қal,
Қyzygyndy zher korer
Azhal kuyp zhetken son!
Ait deitіn aga sіz kaida,
Aitatyn ony bіz kaida,
Bіr tөbenің basyna,
Tuga salyp ketken son?!
