The epic “Korugly” is a hagiographical work. The epos is dedicated to the father of the main character Korugly, his campaigns, actions of his sons and grandsons on the way to the defence of the country and heroic wedding. The epic originated in the Turkmen people inhabiting Northern Khorasan and Southern Azerbaijan in XVI-XVIII centuries.

The epic has Kazakh, Azerbaijani, Armenian, Iranian, Georgian, Turkish, Tatar, Kumyk, Tajik, Uzbek and Karakalpak national versions.
