Art of carpet weaving
Weaving various woolen products on the land of Kazakhstan has been known since ancient times. Finds during archaeological excavations on the Altai land, prove this fact. Famous scientists M.P. Gryaznov and S.V. Kiselev noted that the patterns on the outside of these objects are very close to the carvings of modern Altaians and Kazaks, Tianshan Kyrgyz.
The collection fully reflects the development and formation of textile art in Kazakhstan, the region of its development, and indicates the period of creation from the end of the 19th century to the 1980s.The Kazakh people highly appreciated pile carpets. As a result of scientific work during the expedition to collect exhibits, it became known to the museum staff that the weaving of fur carpets was preserved throughout Kazakhstan until the 30s of the 20th century. In the book of the famous Kazakh scientist Alkey Margulan “Kazakh folk crafts”, it is said that in the past there were several types of pile carpets. They are: the horde carpet, which has been a part of the aristocracy since the Middle Ages, a very large carpet, a dense woven carpet, a milky white carpet and brown or gray carpets. Pile carpets are woven in braids placed vertically. The lower thread is knitted with a layer of the upper thread and the double thread is made. Carpet pileis 4-7 сm. Carpet-weaving wool, which was originally prepared from the roots and leaves of various plants, was painted with natural colors, painted the surface of the carpet with a rich color and revealed the artistic beauty of the harmony solution.
