Art of dombra making

Among the Kazakh national instruments, one of the most common is the dombra. Dombra occupies a special place in Kazakh music. This is a string instrument of the Kazakh people. The dombra instrument has been made by craftsmen from among the people since ancient times and left us as a legacy. The total length of the drum is 640 mm, the length of its body is 260 mm, the length of the neck is 320 mm. It consists of 35 parts, including the names of the keys. There are many types of drums. They are double-gutted, triple-gutted, deep-bodied, broad-bodied, double-gutted, brown Indian. The design of dombra consists of several parts: head, ears, keys, neck, body, cover, hook and strings. There are three types of drumsticks (shaitan tiek, basic tiek, threshold tiek). Dombra is made from sacred wood, such as pine with high sound permeability, mulberry with sound reproduction properties, maple, oak, etc. The body of composite dombra is made of thin slats and dombra itself is carved from solid wood.
