Kazakh traditional song art
Traditional songs are one of the valuable assets of the Kazakh people. According to musicologists' estimates, there are more than 5000 melodies and 12000 songs in our nation. This is a direct evidence of centuries-long history of development of Kazakh singing art. The traditional art of singing to the accompaniment of the sacred dombra and ancient kobyz is characterised by the perfection of structure, wide range and complex rhythmics. In the traditional art of singing, which has passed through the filter of many centuries and reached our days, due to its melodic, performing, structural differences and wide distribution, several schools have been conventionally formed. These are the schools of Arka, Western Kazakhstan, Syr Darya and Zhetysu.
