The masterclass «Rhythms of Ornament» took place

The Department of Museum Pedagogy and Children's Creativity organized a masterclass on cutting traditional Kazakh ornaments titled «Rhythms of Ornament» as part of the project «Aspiration for Beauty».

Students of the Republican Physics and Mathematics School in Astana took part in the session.

The aim of the masterclass was to introduce students to the rich heritage of Kazakh traditional decorative and applied arts, to foster respect for national art, and to develop their aesthetic and creative abilities through working with modern materials such as felt.

Balzhan Ramazan, a teacher of Art and Craft and a researcher-educator, was invited to conduct the session. At the beginning of the class, the specialist spoke about the semantic features of Kazakh ornaments, which are considered part of the national cultural code.

Then, based on the exhibits in the ethnography hall, she provided in-depth information about the importance of the principle of «rhythm» in decorative arts and the aesthetic worldview of nomadic people, thereby broadening the students’ historical understanding.

In the practical part, Balzhan Sagyndykovna demonstrated techniques for creating ornamental felt panels and shared her professional experience.

Participants learned how to cut felt, build compositions, and work with hot glue. This process helped develop their concentration and sparked interest in creating handmade items.

During the session, participants explored the intricacies of Kazakh ornamentation and improved their practical skills. The masterclass was aimed at increasing young people’s interest in national art and developing their aesthetic taste.
