A roundtable dedicated to the promotion of national clothing was held

As part of the «Nauryznama» ten-day celebration, a roundtable dedicated to promoting national clothing was held at the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The main goal of the event was to highlight the historical and cultural significance of traditional Kazakh attire, demonstrate its educational value, and discuss effective ways of integrating it into modern life.

During the meeting, participants explored the beauty and profound philosophical meaning of Kazakh clothing from various perspectives. Bulbul Kapkyzy, an ethnographer and craftswoman from the «Nomad» ethno-center, provided a comprehensive overview of the history and cultural role of clothing in her presentation titled «National Clothing as Spiritual and Material Heritage». Manshuk Ozganbaykyzy, a teacher at School No. 101 «Keleshek» in Astana, elaborated on the deep philosophical meanings embedded in traditional ornaments in her talk «The Meaning and Symbolism of National Patterns».

Venera Polatbekkyzy, a member of the Eurasian Designers’ Union of Kazakhstan (Union of Artists and Craftsmen), emphasized the importance of using natural and environmentally friendly materials in clothing production, highlighting the need to maintain quality and traditional techniques. Designer Altyngul Madenkyzy proposed ways to develop national clothing in a modern context and shared ideas on adapting it to contemporary styles. Art historian Nazerke Shynarbek analyzed the costumes of Kazakh women in historical films, presenting the connection between tradition and modern life from a new perspective.

At the end of the meeting, participants exchanged views on pressing issues related to preserving, developing, and adapting national clothing to modern realities. Such events undoubtedly contribute to the revival of cultural heritage, the preservation of national identity, and its transmission to future generations.

The roundtable once again demonstrated that national clothing is not merely a fashion or decorative element, but an essential expression of our history, culture, and spiritual values.
