A solo exhibition by Ergazy Isatayev titled «The Legacy of the Craftsman: Skill and Tradition» has opened at the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Dedicated to the artisan’s 60th anniversary, the exhibition aims to widely promote the work of a master recognized as a member of the Union of Artists of Kazakhstan and the Union of Designers of Kazakhstan, a cultural figure of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as a jeweler, craftsman-artist, and restorer.
The exhibition was organized in cooperation with the Historical and Archaeological Museum of the Ulytau Region. The display is based on the master’s personal collection and valuable items from the museum’s holdings.
Opening the exhibition, the museum’s director Berik Abdygaliuly noted that the master’s works are preserved in several museums across the country. According to him, in Kazakh tradition the concept of «usta» (craftsman) holds special respect.
— «A craftsman is not a случайная profession but a gift passed down from generation to generation. We express our gratitude to you for turning this sacred art into your life’s work and successfully combining it with museum activity», he said.
For his part, Ergazy Isatayev shared that he has been working at the Historical and Archaeological Museum of the Ulytau Region for nearly 30 years. During this time, he has restored and newly created around one hundred exhibits. According to the master, in addition to jewelry-making, he also works with wood, metal, bone, and leather.
The exhibition features about 60 items reflecting traditional Kazakh everyday culture, warrior traditions, and jewelry art from the 18th-19th centuries and the early 20th century. Among them are household items, jewelry, weapons of batyrs, and horse equipment. A reconstruction of horse gear from the Taldy-2 burial mound (7th-6th centuries BC) is also presented.
The exhibition «The Legacy of the Craftsman: Skill and Tradition» will be open to visitors until April 23.
