Within the framework of the «Inclusive Policy Concept for 2025-2030», adopted at the initiative of the President of the RK, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, special attention is being given to protecting the rights of persons with special needs and fostering the development of their creative potential. The document aims to ensure equal rights and opportunities for persons with special needs, create a barrier-free environment, enable the full realization of their potential, and systematically implement the principles of inclusion across all sectors of society.
In this context, the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, within the project «Accessible Museum: Cultural Heritage for All», in cooperation with the Center for Labor Resources Development, held a seminar-lecture entitled «Inclusion in Museums: Practices for Creating an Accessible Environment».
The main objectives of the event were to create a barrier-free environment within museum spaces, develop inclusive museum practices, enhance the professional competencies of museum specialists, and improve methods of working with visitors with special needs.
During the seminar, lectures were delivered by Gulnar Akhmoldina, consultant-expert at the Center for Labor Resources Development JSC, and Anna Dik, an external consultant on accessibility and inclusion at the «Sharapat» Social Services Center under the Akimat of Astana.
The event featured comprehensive discussions on best practices for creating an accessible environment at the National Museum, ethical and effective communication with persons with special needs, assessment of museum accessibility, and the integration of the museum facility into the Invago Kazakhstan digital map.
